Flight Cancelled, “All By Myself”

When Richard Dunn’s flight out of Las Vegas was cancelled, instead of crying or banging his head against the wall (which is what I would have done), he taped his phone to the handle of his suitcase, and videoed himself all over McCarran Airport, lip-syncing passionately and despondently to “All by Myself” by Celine Dion. (Wait a second. In the video, I think he did cry and bang his head against the wall! Ah, well. Can’t blame him.)

With this video Dunn perfectly exemplifies “making lemonade out of lemons” and “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em,” and “why not sit on the floor next to a sculpted turtle or within reach of the painted woman on the wall next to the ladies’ restroom entrance and try to hold her hand.”

No, no, you don’t have to thank me for sharing his fine work. Just watch it and smile…and then share it yourself. Trust me, you’ll understand why in just a matter of days, he’s gone completely viral with over 1 million hits.

I wonder how many travel bloggers will be adding this clever and imaginative video to their site! I wish I’d thought of this…

Some are saying, actually, that there will be many copycat videographers in depopulated airports.

Gosh, I hope so.

(Update 2 August 2015: As of today, there are 17.3 million plays on Vimeo! Watch it!)
